Recycling Prom Dresses and Formal Wear Helps High School Kids Attend Their Proms

Spring is here, and for many teenagers, that means one thing: PROM. Anyone who has attended proms and formal affairs may remember how expensive these activities were. I sure do. The costs involved have become so high some families cannot afford for their daughter or son to attend. If you or someone you know has a closet full of prom dresses and/or bridesmaid dresses, do we have a feel-good project for you! First step? Admitting you will never wear that shiny purple dress again. Ha! Ha! It’s not like we’re going to another homecoming or prom anytime soon. But some girl somewhere is going to prom, and she needs a dress. I know I was saving mine "in case I ever decide to become a size 8 again," (delusional! I know I was delusional!). But one person's frothy yellow chiffon mistake is another person's prom treasure.
That said, it’s natural to want to take the next step—donating your unwanted party dresses to projects like DonateMyDress.org.

If you cannot find a drop off location near you, then here’s another idea: list it on ConsignmentCrossroads.com for 10% - 20% of what you paid and donate the proceeds to projects like DonateMyDress.org or sister organizations. JUST 4 GIRLS seller did so here. Take a L@@K!!! http://www.consignmentcrossroads.com/offer/details/869

So if you have a few dresses of your own (less than 5 years old) or have a teenager looking to find a good home for her worn-only-once dress please consider listing or donating it today. By doing this, you’re not only recycling, you’re making a needy girl’s prom dream come true. If you can’t list it for one reason or another and cannot find a similar program in your area, consider donating it to a local youth theater company or to Goodwill.

What an easy way to make a deserving teen’s high school career a little brighter…and let you reclaim space in your closet for the new spring line! I’d consider that a definite win-win.
