EARTH DAY 2010 – April 22, 2010

Celebrate Earth-Month by Reuse - Rewear & Recycling

Everyone can celebrate Earth Day by recycling and trading their unwanted fashions for newer ones. It can be hard to stay on top of fashion trends while trying to save money and the environment, buying clothes on consignment helps accomplish both those goals without causing style to suffer.

ConsignmentCrossroads.com is designed to help us purge our closets, update our wardrobes in an environmentally friendly fashion, and help the reuse cause in the process. It has been my experience that if I haven’t worn it in the last year, I probably am not going to wear it. For whatever reason, our closets are full of items that we no longer wear. Maybe we've lost weight or bought on impulse a little too often, or perhaps we've only planned to wear that dress or suit for that one special occasion. Your quality castoffs can be turned into extra cash, so take inventory and then head to ConsignmentCrossroads.com. The website provides a chance for everyone in our community to sell things we no longer use and purchase items that will be new to us.

Clothing Recycling 101
Consignment Crossroads is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with an exciting recycling challenge. List your Spring/Summer items this weekend! Why? Online Consignment

Consignment shopping has never been easier!

What is online consignment? It’s just that – consignment carried out online.

Buyers save time and enjoy the convenience of shopping from home. Sellers save time and enjoy the convenience of consigning items from home. Sellers photograph their products, list their products, and best of all --- the seller decides the starting price (allowing sellers to charge less because they do not have to share the typical high consignment split between the consignor and the consignment shop).

What’s the difference between regular consignment and online consignment? When consigning your products with a physical store, you are basically lending your products to the retail storeowner. The retailer displays your wares and includes them in their line of products. If the merchandise sells, the store owner pays you less the agreed percentage and other costs. The percentage share of the retailer ranges from 25 to 60 percent, depending on the store and the type of merchandise. Consignment online allows you to sell your products without having to pay for rents, overhead, or salaries of people to staff the store. It also allows you to reach more locations and different markets.

It's possible to make quite a bit of money consigning, particularly if you are selling more high-end pieces… at the right price, of course.

Where can I consign online? At Consignment Crossroads!

WORK FROM HOME?!

I saw on another fb page last week the subject of work-from-home opportunities. Many people were posting how hard it was to find legitimate jobs with REAL weekly paychecks. Many had fallen victim to scams and going forward don’t know who to trust.

Soooooo, INQUIRING minds want to know. Does anyone here have one of these REAL jobs.
Zero start costs.
No selling.
No inventory.
No recruiting.
A job where you are hired and paid hourly or for quantities completed? And where did you find this awesome opportunity? Here’s your chance to brag and inform the rest of us.

Recycling Prom Dresses and Formal Wear Helps High School Kids Attend Their Proms

Spring is here, and for many teenagers, that means one thing: PROM. Anyone who has attended proms and formal affairs may remember how expensive these activities were. I sure do. The costs involved have become so high some families cannot afford for their daughter or son to attend. If you or someone you know has a closet full of prom dresses and/or bridesmaid dresses, do we have a feel-good project for you! First step? Admitting you will never wear that shiny purple dress again. Ha! Ha! It’s not like we’re going to another homecoming or prom anytime soon. But some girl somewhere is going to prom, and she needs a dress. I know I was saving mine "in case I ever decide to become a size 8 again," (delusional! I know I was delusional!). But one person's frothy yellow chiffon mistake is another person's prom treasure.
That said, it’s natural to want to take the next step—donating your unwanted party dresses to projects like DonateMyDress.org.

If you cannot find a drop off location near you, then here’s another idea: list it on ConsignmentCrossroads.com for 10% - 20% of what you paid and donate the proceeds to projects like DonateMyDress.org or sister organizations. JUST 4 GIRLS seller did so here. Take a L@@K!!! http://www.consignmentcrossroads.com/offer/details/869

So if you have a few dresses of your own (less than 5 years old) or have a teenager looking to find a good home for her worn-only-once dress please consider listing or donating it today. By doing this, you’re not only recycling, you’re making a needy girl’s prom dream come true. If you can’t list it for one reason or another and cannot find a similar program in your area, consider donating it to a local youth theater company or to Goodwill.

What an easy way to make a deserving teen’s high school career a little brighter…and let you reclaim space in your closet for the new spring line! I’d consider that a definite win-win.

WHAT'S HOT...
· current styles, 5 years old or LESS
· dresses that are clean and ready to wear
· shoes to coordinate with the gowns
· costume jewelry
· small, dressy purses and handbags
· price it low, about 10% - 20% of what you paid (for example: paid $150; price it at $15 to $30 shipped)

WHAT'S NOT...
· dresses with stains, rips, holes, tears and pulls
· gowns that are old and outdated (older than 5 years)
· business suits
· wedding gowns
· pant suits
· sun dresses
· undergarments
· worn out shoes

**Special thanks to JUST 4 GIRLS seller for this fabulous idea!!!!**

It's Official! The Consignment Crossroads Blog is LIVE!!!

OK here goes…

So, I'm not big on talking about myself and writing is not really my forte, but here goes my best attempt!

Just a little about me...I'm 35, married to a wonderful man named Allen, am the mother of one daughter with another daughter on the way (very exciting!!), and entrepreneur. I have dreamed of owning my own business for years and after much prayer, I took the leap and began working on my own resale website in January of 2009. The website was a hit and I was selling items before I could add more to my inventory. I was unable to keep up with the demand, thus, Consignment Crossroads was born about 6 months later.

What is Consignment Crossroads? It’s a ‘crossroads’ or marketplace where numerous members meet online to BUY & SELL new items and gently loved items. Over the past year I have learned so much, but more than anything, I have learned that I am absolutely determined to make this work. I believe in the concept, all listings are free, unless you want to jazz them up as featured or bolded listing. And I believe that everyone in this community can benefit from each other’s new creations to gently loved items in effort to recycle and GO GREEN.

I appreciate your interest in what I am doing and invite your stories and comments. I'm new to this whole blogging thing, but hope to touch the lives of others in a positive way. If there's something you'd like to know or questions that you may have, please join in. I look forward to blogging with you all!
